Kurayami Festival (Darkness Festival)

From to

This festival has the name of “Kurayami Festival” (Darkness Festival) because all of the events are carried out in the dark. The largest domestic collection of six taiko drums are beaten as the eight portable mikoshi shrines are carried along, guided by the lights of the big drum and lanterns. Although the festival is held annually from April 30 – May 6, the festivals peak and best viewing are from May 3 to 6.
